Big Bones

Attention, Attention!

I, Bones Royster weigh 8.6 lbs! My blog on the 20th, put me at 7.6 lbs, which means I gained an entire pound. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately (for Mommy and Daddy), I have not grown in length and remain at 14". Also, I am proud to announce that I am rabies vaccinated (with tags) and have official Chicago dog park tags! Now I can go to the dog park and the dog beaches without getting a ticket. It's official, I'm a big boy!

I am almost giardia free which means I am almost done taking my medication. Mommy and Daddy lied when they said I'd be done with my medicine last week. But apparently, it was the Doctor's decision. So Daddy still squirts 1cc of whatever is in that needle looking thing into my mouth and then take a nasty pill. Here is Mommy and Daddy's way of getting me to swallow the pill. And just to clarify, I am not smiling.

Even though I get a treat afterwards, I'm not sure it is worth it. One day I thought it'd be funny to play keep away with the syringe in my mouth. Mommy and Daddy were not pleased. That'll show 'em!

Speaking of going to the vet, here is a picture of me with some of my "vet trophies." Whenever we go to the vet, Mommy and Daddy buy me a toy afterwards. So most of my toys represent how brave I am!

Doggles

Mommy and Daddy made me put on some weird doggles. They both laughed while I tried to take them off. Daddy mentioned buying them for our trips to the beach! Nooooo! Like an orange life vest isn't bad enough..

Music at the Park

Last night there was a band playing at the park, so Mommy, Daddy and I went to join in on the excitement. I met a weimaraner at the park, but he didn't really want to play with me. Mommy says dogs (other than Lily) don't want to play with me because I like to jump on them. How else do you play? We relaxed by the bleachers and before we knew it, we were pleasantly surprised by Carlton and Lily! Needless to say, we played all night until it was dark. Mommy always tries to get a photo of us but according to her, one of us always looks away. I have been in the house most of today because it has been raining. If the weather permits, Mommy and I may go back to the park tonight. I need my exercise!

Check out my wink! Daddy says this is what I would look like with a missing eye. Yikes.

Daddy, Lily and I

This is Mommy's favorite picture of us!

We like to make it as hard as possible for Mommy to get a decent photo. Hehe!
And this is how we say goodbye..See you soon Lily!

Lunch Time

Another lunch date with Mommy and Daddy! I have no idea where we went, but I suppose that is not very important. There were tons of bees flying around and Mommy was totally freaking out. I could eat bees for fun! Today was my first day out with my Puppia harness and I am starting to like it. We also met a lady that owns a pet care company and she was very nice to me. She gave me lamb flavored treats which Mommy and Daddy never do!

Daddy is always thinking about important things when Mommy wants a picture of us

Mommy and I with some hot dog advertisement. Daddy was eating that exact hot dog!

Yes, I am modeling my Puppia harness! Too bad the tag is sticking out.

The really big stick I found at the park with Mommy.

The Traveling Pug

I have been traveling a lot with Mommy and Daddy lately. Because I am a big (and a good) boy, I can go eat with Mommy and Daddy as long as there is an outside eating area. Last time, I went to Heartland Cafe with Daddy and Uncle Keith, but this time Mommy came. When we got there, we had to wait but I didn't mind because there were a lot of people looking at me, and wanting to pet me. Not to brag or anything, but I was quite the hit. There was an arts festival nearby, and a lady told me that I was the biggest hit at the festival! :) I had to sit on the other side of the fence, but I had food, water and my fish toy. I tried to eat, but I had so many people to play with that I never finished and eventually knocked my food bowl over.

Today, Mommy and I went took the train to a store called The Hungry Pup. They had lots of toys and goodies there, so it was fun. Mommy bought me a new food bowl in the shape of a bone, a monkey toy (because Mommy calls me her monkey) and a chew thing for puppies like me! We then met Daddy and ate at a sidewalk cafe where dogs were allowed. Mommy and Daddy talked about really important adult things while I barked at dogs and played with my toys. Hanging out with Mommy and Daddy is so much fun! On the train ride back, I noticed that a guy kept looking over at me. Turns out, he was sketching me in his journal! Kind of cool, right?

After lunch, we went back to The Hungry Pup with Daddy to find me a new harness. I got a new black Puppia harness, new treats and frozen peanut butter treats! Does this mean I am spoiled? When we got home, I finally got to try out the frozen treat and it was DELICIOUS!

Here I am at the beginning of my treat eating!

My Little Buddy

There is a parasite inside of me eating all of my nutrients! I have giardia! Mommy and Dadddy said I will be better soon so I am not worried. The Doctor said that when I am better, my poop will be solid and not soft-serve-frozen-yogurt-like. It is kind of weird to think that I have a little buddy living inside of me. I think I will name my parasite Little Buddy. So for all my friends that read this blog, do not eat random things when going on walks and do not drink stagnant water! I am told that giardia is pretty common in puppies so watch out! Mommy and Daddy think that maybe when Little Buddy leaves, I will finally be as big as my pal Lily!

Will Potty For Treats

I am getting bigger everyday! At last week's vet appointment, I was 7.6 lbs, which makes me almost an entire pound heavier than the week before! Mommy measured me and I am 14" in length. I wonder how much I will weigh at this week's visit to the vet? Speaking of going to the vet, I got two more shots last week. The Doctor said I only have one more shot left and I am finished. Thank goodness! I felt lethargic most of the day after getting my shots, but I think Mommy and Daddy were happy because I did really well in my carrier that day. We rode the bus to puppy school and the vet and that meant I had to sit in the carrier.

I have been pooping and peeing a lot in the house lately. It is so much easier to do it inside the house. When I go outside, I don't want to potty. I want to play with sticks and run around! Mommy and Daddy don't appreciate my reasoning so I will try harder to potty when they take me outside. Maybe if Mommy and Daddy give me more treats, I will potty better outside (hint hint Mom and Dad!).

Lily and Bones Time

Play dates with other puppies are fun, but when its with Lily its even more exciting! We met Lily and Carlton at the park last night and Lily and I rolled around and played the minute we saw each other. Soon after we got to the park, we were spotted by the kids and before we knew it, kids were screaming, trying to pick us up and chasing us around. This made Lily not want to play as much, but I tried to keep the kids entertained as much as possible until they had to leave. An older girl came up and picked me up like she was my Mommy and I think that annoyed Mommy. After Daddy insisted she put me down, MY Mommy picked me up and held me until the all the kids left.

Lily and I finally had some peace and quiet and it was serious playtime! Lily must have been tired because I was able to win some of the rolling around matches (this usually does not happen). After almost two hours of playtime, we had to say goodbye. Luckily for Mommy and Daddy, I was exhausted and passed out once we got home. I heard Lily did the same! Lily and I are becoming good friends, and I can't wait to see her again!

My Busy Life

I would blog more often if my days weren't so busy! I have been unbelievably busy learning new tricks, playing with a house full of toys and getting into things I probably shouldn't be playing with. Daddy took this picture of me because he says I always have stuff on my mouth.

Now that we have new patio furniture, we sit outside a lot. Even when Mommy and Daddy aren't outside, I like to stand on the balcony to watch the people who walk by. Whoever said pugs aren't good guard dogs were wrong because I sit on the balcony and scare people away! Oh, and that orange thing is my sheep sheep.

I found a new toy today in Mommy's stuff. She said its a MINI bulldog and it has something to do with her car. I didn't even know Mommy had a car! Well, me and MINI sat on the couch together and I chewed on his ears! He started to get on my nerves a little bit when he started taking up my spot on the couch. And that goofy grin of his, what's he so happy about?

The hardest part of my day is doing chores. I helped Mommy with laundry all day today while Daddy was at work. Can you see me helping?

When the UPS delivery man came today, he brought me my airline approved ARGO Pet Carrier. When I visit California this Christmas I will be riding in my bag. It is less comfortable than my normal bed, but when Mommy puts a treat inside, I forget about everything!

Puppy Class Day 1

Today was my first day of school! I started puppy class with Mommy and Daddy and we had to wake up to be there at 9:30. The class attendance was low and Cubby and I were the only two puppies today. Cubby must be a Chicago Cubs fan because he had on a Cubs collar and leash. Daddy and I practiced our tricks last night so that I could blow everyone away with my skills but when I got to class there were too many distractions! I was surrounded by bags of dog food, a new classmate and I had to explore my new environment. Cubby often times out-shined me but I didn't jump on Mommy like Cubby kept doing with his Mommy. Towards the end of class, I had to poop. So I went in the middle of training and Mommy had to pick up my poop in front of the entire class! Oops.

I am definitely improving my tricks but I am starting to figure out that I can combine all my tricks into one trick. When Daddy tells me to sit, I also start laying down before he tells me to. The faster I do the tricks, the faster I get my treat! Also, Mommy and Daddy have been trusting me to roam the entire house when they leave. I no longer have to stay behind my gate and I can play all over the house while waiting for Mommy and Daddy to come home! I am a lucky lucky boy!

Here I am before my first day of school!

For those who didn't know, this is me and my Mommy!

I love my Daddy! He is so comfortable!

Couch Pugtato

Life has been really hard. I have been lounging, eating, pooping, peeing, watching TV and chasing after balls! Whew! The hard work never ends. Mommy calls me a couch Pugtato. I think that means I'm a hard worker!

Toys

We went to a new pet store today called Bark Place in Rogers Park. Mommy bought a big bag of my favorite peanut butter treats and the man at the store gave me a toy for free. Not to be snobby, but I didn't like the toy as much as my toys at home. Daddy attached the toy to my harness but I ignored it and kept walking, which made Daddy take it off. Mommy and Daddy signed me up for puppy classes at Petsmart as promised and my first day will be next Saturday! Mommy and Daddy came home with this orange thing they call a life vest. They made me put it on and it made me really sad. I didn't feel like myself when I had it on and I don't get what its for. Daddy said something about swimming and the lake? Mommy and Daddy were laughing and saying how cute I was but after I pouted for a several minutes the life vest came right off. Thank goodness!

Today must be my lucky day (again) because Mommy and Daddy came home with a great surprise! They got me a yellow soccer ball so that I can practice my soccer at the park! I really like soccer, and even though the ball is bigger than me, I know exactly how to push it around. Sometimes its fun to lay on my back and kick the ball with my paws, but most of the time I like using my head and body to make the ball go where I want it to!

Boy, is my life hard! Aside from all the fun things I already talked about we did something else! Mommy bought a paw print kit online and we were finally able to do it. Now my paw prints are stamped on a piece of paper that mommy had framed. It came out a little smeared but Mommy says it adds character, whatever that means.

Mommy's Arrival

Mommy is finally home! Yesterday, Daddy and I went outside to go potty and Mommy drove up in a taxi! I was so excited to see her! She brought me more toys and I love having two people to sit with on the couch. Mommy's hand is also very yummy and even though she doesn't like it when I chew on her hand, I still try to get in a few bites. We went out for a walk last night and we saw Lily! Lily and I played for almost an hour with many water breaks in between. Lily and I both love to drink water right out of the sports bottle like Mommy and Daddy do. After our play time, Lily and I gave each other kisses and we said goodbye. I hope I see Lily again soon since we always manage to have a great time!

I am so happy that Mommy is home because she loves to snuggle with me when we go to bed at night. I have the best parents in the world!
