California Update

Let me see here, I need to update on my vacation! So, I still have not been accepted into the pack, but things are getting easier everyday. Wiley finally gave in and played with me a few days ago, and every once in awhile I can get him to run around with me.

I follow both Daisy and Wiley around constantly because they know the ropes here on Royster Island. Daisy doesn't really talk to me but I follow her around for as long as she'll let me. If she runs to the kitchen, I scramble right along behind her. Oh, I smell her butt sometimes too. That is usually the last straw for Daisy and she shows me who's boss.

Wiley is pretty tough and I really look up to him. I have learned that his hearing is outstanding and he hears things way before I do. He is constantly scaring away the coyotes, and believe it or not, I feel safe when he is around. Even with his confidence, he is the most jealous dog I have ever met. Wiley is constantly reminding me that Daddy loved him first and that I will just have to wait my turn. I guess its fair, since Wiley only has Daddy for another week or so.

You will not believe how much time I get to spend outside! Considering how much sunshine and outdoor time California dogs get, I don't get why they are always so grouchy and rude. Mommy and Daddy took me to the Canyon Crest Towne Center where I ran into more upset and rude dogs. What is the matter with them? If I could spend all day outside and in this nice weather, I would be happier than I already am! I suppose the dogs here just don't know how good they have it.

The best part of being here is that I don't have to wear a harness or a leash when I go outside to play. I have so much freedom and I will enjoy my freedom as much as possible before going back home to Chicago. I think my potty skills have also improved since I came to California. Although, I probably should apologize to Grandma Reesa for my mess-ups here and there.

And then there's Pookie. She is my size and we have such great potential as buddies. But of all the dogs here, she hates me the most. Don't people say that when someone is mean to you, they really like you? Regardless, I have given up on trying to be her friend. If she is playing hard to get, I'm not interested. Big dogs are more fun anyway. Since I obviously have nothing to lose with Pookie, I drive her nuts as much as possible. I keep asking her to play, I sit right next to her, and even ask Mommy to take pictures of us together. I think it makes her blood boil!

I think during my really young puppy days, I spent time around the kittens at the pet store. But it had been so long that I was completely intrigued by cats! Grandma Reesa has an indoor cat named Tiger and an outdoor cat named Milo. Big surprise, none of them like me. I learned my lesson with Milo soon after I came to California and I know better than to mess with him. Sure, I stare him down and mess with him a bit, but I know better than to get in his face. I rarely see Tiger, but when I did see him, I tried to get him to play with me. He was uninterested and there was nothing I could do to persuade him.

On the day Mommy was leaving, Daddy and I were playing chase around the couch. Tiger was sitting on the couch and must have been really annoyed with me running around because he took a swipe at me and hit my eye. The one time I leave him alone, he gets me! I was shocked and had no idea what happened. Soon, I felt the pain in my eye and my vision got fuzzy. Mommy and Daddy rushed me to the hospital because eye injuries can be lethal to us pugs. The doctor said it should heal and asked me to come back in a week. I'm not sure how I will return since we are going back to Chicago but Mommy and Daddy said not to worry. I am going to see the doggy eye doctor in Chicago when we return.

I can't say for sure, but I think I have learned my lesson. I will probably leave Tiger alone for the duration of my vacation. Mommy has been gone for three days and I can't wait to see her next week.

Until next time...
